Unclaimed property, such as uncashed checks, forgotten refunds on utility deposits or unknown insurance payments, falls in the hands of the treasurer’s office until the rightful owner can be located.

Staff from the State Treasurer’s office will assist State Fair attendees in navigating the department’s online database at the Trademart building. Hours for the booth start at 11 a.m. each day of the fair and end at 5 p.m., with limited hours available in the evening to be announced.
The staff will also provide claim forms.
According to a statement from Fitch, in the first three years of this service at the State Fair, attendees intiated nearly 5,000 claims, claiming nearly $8.3 million in payments.
The online database can be found at treasurerlynnfitch.com, but the in-person service will only be offered at the fair.
The fair opens on Oct. 5 and ends on Oct. 16 in Jackson.
