Supervisors pass several items during routine meeting

The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors approved several routine items during Monday’s regular meeting.
Supervisors approved a motion by District 3 representative Josh Todd to have Maiden Estates in Collinsville declared a subdivision contingent on the Planing Commission’s approval. If granted, the subdivision would be eligible for culverts and a 911 address.

Sheriff Billy Sollie was approved to send personnel to various training courses in Meridian, Meridian Community College, Byhalia and Harvey, La. All training costs, registration, lodging and per diem for all courses were approved.
Sollie said the county jail housed 297 inmates as of Monday. Of that number, 191, or 87 percent, were felons awaiting trial.
Tax Assessor James Rainey was approved to send Michael Guiliano and Casey Herrington to attend an International Association of Assessing Officers course in Meridian on Sept. 12-16. Herrington will also attend another IAAO course in Meridian on Nov. 7-11.
Interim County Administrator Cheryl Polk was approved to to hire Jeff Scarborough as Compliance Officer in the permit office.
Polk was approved to send dispatcher Jennifer Boykin to the Crisis Call Handling & Distress Management seminar in Philadelphia, Miss.
Supervisors accepted the $7,000 Mississippi Department of Archives and History Grant.

The Board also approved observing Labor Day on Sept. 5.
Also, supervisors will have a public hearing to discuss the budget on Sept. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
