State, DMR seek vendors for ferry service to Deer Island

BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — The Secretary of State’s office and the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources have begun the process to find vendors who will provide ferry service to the new $360,000 Deer Island public pier.
The Mississippi Press reports (http://bit.ly/1U8pKrh) a workshop will be held May 3 in Biloxi to allow vendors to receiving certification to transport passengers to and from Deer Island.

The majority of Deer Island was purchased by the state in 2002 for $17 million.
The DMR is also working on an informative program for Deer Island during the summer months which will include a seasonal tour guides to educate visitors about the island’s coastal preserve.
