HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi Armed Forces Museum officials expect the museum to reopen sometime this year, although an exact date hasn’t been set.

In early 2015, the museum at Camp Shelby closed to the public for construction of a new gallery and renovations.

Officials are expanding the facility by about 8,000 square feet for more exhibition space, and have taken out the exhibitions to be replaced by new ones.

On Friday, The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/1qzxzKC) the museum added a newly commissioned series of art by Mark Poole, a fine arts instructor with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The first part of the four-piece series, which was unveiled by Camp Shelby Commander Col. Gregory Michel, depicts a Mississippi dragoon soldier from the War of 1812.
