Meridian CC gets doubleheader split against Pearl River CC

The Meridian Community College softball team returned to the familiar surroundings of Tommy McDonald Field Friday afternoon for a MACJC doubleheader against Pearl River Community College.
The Lady Eagles came away with a split against PRCC by falling in Game 1 by a final of 8-6 and fighting back in Game 2 to take a 4-3 victory.
MCC moved its overall record to 11-25 overall for the 2016 season with the split and 8-14 in MACJC action. MCC will return to the field on Monday afternoon with a home doubleheader against East Central Community College beginning at 1 p.m.
MCC built a 6-0 lead after two innings of Game 1 on Friday, but the Lady Wildcats were able to battle back to take the win.
MCC managed seven total hits in the loss, while PRCC finished Game 1 with nine total hits as a team. Anna Lloyd led MCC at the plate in Game 1 with one base hit and three RBIs. Josie Anderson also had a solid opening game Friday afternoon for the Lady Eagles with a pair of hits and two RBIs.
Angel Thornton suffered the loss out of the bullpen in Game 1 for MCC by working four innings and surrendering three earned runs.
MCC did bounce back in Game Two thanks to an RBI single in the sixth inning by Shania Richardson to take a dramatic 4-3 victory over PRCC, salvaging the home split. Mia Johnson scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning for the Lady Eagles and also picked up three hits in the win.
Anna Lloyd also picked up a pair of base hits and one RBI, while Keelee Ladnier added one single for the Lady Eagles. Payton Fox was credited with the pitching win for the Lady Eagles by working just more than three innings, while Thornton notched the save out of the bullpen.
