GREENSBORO, N.C. – Services for Nannie Smith will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Elder Milton Gunter officiating. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mrs. Smith, 96, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Ashton Place Health and Rehab. She was born August 30, 1919, in Stokes County, to the late Lizzie and Samuel Stewart. She was one of six children that were raised solely by her mother due to the death of her father during the flu epidemic that year. This resulted in her being named after him and therefore, affectionately being called “Sammye.” She was a faithful member of Walnut Cove Primitive Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Carey Smith and wife, Michele, of Meridian, Miss., and Wanda Clark and husband, Jerry, of Greensboro, N.C. In addition she is survived by her adoring grandchildren, Cristen Hoots and husband, Scott, of Kernersville, N.C., Dr. Christopher Clark and wife, Tracy, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Ashlyn Clark of Raleigh, N.C.; three great-granddaughters, Anna Hoots and Madeleine Hoots of Kernersville, N.C., and Addison Clark of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews, many of whom were very faithful to visit, call and care for her needs.
She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Roger Smith to whom she was married for almost 63 years. They were quite the team sharing the same work ethic in all that they did. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Frances Dick and Emma James; as well as three brothers, Harvey, John and Joseph Stewart.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, N.C. 27405.
Visitation will be today, from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com.
