JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say a teenager has been charged in connection with a stabbing at a high school prom in Jackson.

Jackson Police Department spokeswoman Colendula Green tells media outlets that 18-year-old Bernard Johnathan Harper was arrested and charged with aggravated assault following Friday night’s incident at the Callaway High School prom. The event was held at the Old Capital Inn.

Police say an unidentified 18-year-old victim was stabbed several times. Green says his condition is not life threatening.

The Jackson Public School District released a statement regarding the incident, which officials say appears to have stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the two teenagers.

Students attending the event were released shortly before midnight. The district also sent a letter to parents about the incident.
