MCC Homecoming ceremonies to crown queen

    One Meridian Community College co-ed will be crowned the homecoming queen when MCC hosts its annual homecoming event Monday.

     The crowning ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. in the College’s Graham Gymnasium. MCC President Dr. Scott Elliott will crown the queen.

     Eight members make up the homecoming court – four freshmen and four sophomores – with a sophomore being selected as queen. Through balloting, the student body selects the queen.

     Members of the court include sophomores Lexie Rivers of Meridian; Summer Stockstill of Picayune; Gladys Watson of Clinton; and Kyla Williams of Meridian. Freshman maids are Ariel Denise Allgood of George County; Hayden Olivia Hill of Maben; Taylor Miller of Austin, Texas; and Katie Jo Riley of Enterprise.

     Rivers is the daughter of Jack and Vonda Rivers and is studying pre-occupational therapy. A Phil Hardin Honors College member, Rivers is also a member of the Ivy League, a campus student recruiter organization, and an officer in Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international academic honor society.

     Stockstill is the daughter of Raquel and Tom Rose and is studying architecture. She is a former member of the MCC soccer and tennis teams and is a Diamond Darling.

     Watson is the daughter of Gracie Watson and is studying in the Respiratory Care Practitioner Program. She is a member of Health Organizational Clubs of America (HOSA).

     Williams is the daughter of Kelvin and Contina Williams and is a student in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. She is a member of PTK.

     Allgood is the daughter of Tonya and Richard Fairley and is studying pre-veterinary science. She is a member of the MCC softball team.

     Hill is the daughter of Scott and Liz Hill and is studying speech pathology. She is a member of the tennis team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and PTK.

     Miller is the daughter of Terri and Michael Miller. She is a member of the tennis team and the Honors College. She is undecided in her major.

     Riley is the daughter of Todd and Jennifer Riley and is studying nursing. She is a member of FCA and Clarke County 4-H.

     The ceremony will also feature Thomas “Eli” Simpson, the son of Phillip and Jessica Simpson, as crown bearer, and Sarah Addison Higginbotham, daughter of Brad and Becky Higginbotham, as flower girl.
