The Mardi Gras poker run will benefit Meals on Wheels with 50 percent of all registration proceeds.
Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization whose main focus is to ensure that the elderly receive proper nutrition. Their mission is that no senior should go hungry.
“As a restaurant, it is our job to feed people,” said Bud Power, operator of the Meridian Long John Silver’s/ A&W. “This event is a great way for us to help feed those who cannot feed themselves.”
As of 2015, the Meridian branch of Meals on Wheels has 140 volunteers to deliver 198 meals to seniors daily.
“I like to be with people that need help, need a little friendship, and need food,” said Bob Field, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. “I like what it does for people.”
