The Meridian Public School District will host the second-annual “Race for the Future” 5K run, 2-mile walk and 1-mile fun run at 9 a.m. Saturday at Meridian High School.

“By participating in the Race for the Future, you not only get to start the new year off in a fit and fun way, but you are also helping each and every student in the Meridian Public School District be successful,” said Deidre Bland, MPSD instructional specialist and race coordinator.

The money raised from the event will be used for drop-out prevention efforts within the MPSD. With a focus on ensuring that all students are successful, MPSD will use the funds to help provide special programs including motivational speakers, incentives and much more for the students who are most at risk of dropping out of school.

The registration fee is $25 for adults and $15 for students.  Registration will be available until 8:30 a.m. on race day.  Registration applications can be picked up from Deidre Bland at the MPSD Harris Complex (3951 12th Street) or can be filled out online at time2run.net. Race packet pickup will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday in the foyer of the ninth-grade building at Meridian High School.

The race route will start at 23rd Avenue and 32nd Street and then move up 32nd Street to Parkway Boulevard and on to Grandview Avenue. Participants will then travel through the historic district on Poplar Springs Drive and conclude on 24th Avenue. The finishing line is located in the round-about at MHS, which is in front of the boy’s gym and on the side of the ninth-grade building.

“We want to invite all parents, students, staff and community members to take part in the Second Annual MPSD Race for the Future,” Bland said. “We truly appreciated the great participation and support last year, so we hope that everyone will come out again this year to support such a worthy cause.”
