Bryant names Lamar County judge Beam to state Supreme Court

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant is appointing Chancery Judge Dawn Beam of Sumrall to become a state Supreme Court justice.
She will be the second woman on the current court, joining Justice Ann Lamar of Senatobia.

Beam will serve the final 10 months of an eight-year term started by Justice Randy Pierce of Leakesville. He’s resigning Feb. 1 to lead the Mississippi Judicial College, which handles training and education for state court judges and staff.
The 51-year-old Beam is one of four judges in the 10th chancery district, covering Forrest, Lamar, Marion, Pearl River and Perry counties. She will join the high court Feb. 15
The Supreme Court seat covers the southern third of Mississippi.
Bryant named Mississippi Court of Appeals Judge James D. Maxwell II to the Supreme Court Wednesday.
