JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The city of Jackson is investing $4.1 million into a revitalization project.
Local news outlets report the first phase of the Gateway Housing Initiative will rehabilitate homes and demolish dilapidated properties in parts of west Jackson.
Mayor Tony Yarber says the project will allow them to ascertain the approaches that will best suit the city as it brings back a complete community for residents.
The city is using a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant to change the landscape at homes.
Hinethia Richards, director of housing for the Mississippi Housing Partnership, says the city and its partners are working to identify qualifying homeowners.
She says families that meet income guidelines, have owned the home for at least a year and show a clear title can qualify.
