MI-BEST helps ECCC students earn GED, college credit

    DECATUR – East Central Community College is now offering Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (MI-BEST), a program that allows qualified participants to obtain their high school equivalency diploma while simultaneously working on college credit courses.   

     Erin Tramill and Whitney Amis serve as recruiters/navigators for ECCC’s MI-BEST program.

     Tramill holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Mississippi State University and is a former case manager at Central Mississippi Residential Center in Newton.   

     Amis received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Mississippi State University and is a former classroom instructor for both Brandon and Newton County high schools.  

     Tramill said, “We are allowing students to dual enroll in the GED program and six technical hours or the equivalent in one of the following workforce programs: Heating and Air Conditioning, Collision Repair, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Culinary Arts, and Industrial Maintenance.”  

     The new program begins in January for those who qualify. There is no cost for tuition for MI-BEST students.
