HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — The main suspect in the deaths of two Chilean flamingos at the Hattiesburg Zoo has pleaded guilty to grand larceny in Forrest County Circuit Court.

The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/21RfshJ) Circuit Court Judge Robert Helfrich sentenced 20-year-old Devin Nottis Tuesday to complete the Regimented Inmate Discipline Program at the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

The RID program is an intensive paramilitary program designed to rehabilitate offenders in a short period of time. The RID program concentrates on many aspects of confinement, to include, but not limited to: discipline therapy, work detail, adult basic education, discipleship study, group counseling, alcohol and drug, and pre-release.

Nottis was indicted in October 2014 for his participation in the flamingos’ deaths.
