Corinth woman wins $20,000 in dealership’s special giveaway

CORINTH, Miss. (AP) — A Corinth woman has won $20,000 from a car dealer’s special sales event.

Flora Hughey received an invitation in the mail last week prompting her to visit Crossroads Chevrolet Buick GMC, The Daily Corinthian (http://bit.ly/1Y0IMO0) reports. When she walked in to the dealership Dec. 4, she was given the option of a brand new car or $20,000 in cash.

“They told me I had won the car. I had no idea. I thought they were teasing,” she said.

Hughey chose the money so she could save it for retirement. She said she doesn’t drive and doesn’t own a vehicle, but a friend helps her with transportation.

“I’ve never won that much money before,” said Hughey. “I thank God, because I could really use it right now.”

Dealership owner Jeff Smith said the dealership has hosted over 20 special sales events since 2006. He said they have sent thousands of invitations over the years and that this was the first time a person actually claimed the prize.

Smith said people have won various prizes including ATVs and iPads. He added that they also host daily drawing of $500 during each event.

“We love doing these events,” he said. “It’s a great way to give back to the community and the customers who help us continue to be successful.”
