PEARL, Miss. (AP) — Authorities arrested a Colorado man in Mississippi after a K-9 helped find about $1 million worth of drugs inside the man’s vehicle.
Pearl spokesman Capt. Brian McGairty said Eloy Guttierrez Reyes was arrested as a result of a routine traffic stop Sunday, the Clarion-Ledger (http://on.thec-l.com/1M0AyyI) reported.

A Pearl police dog named Splinter alerted detectives to the vehicle. Upon investigation, officials found 47 pounds of methamphetamine and 53 pounds of marijuana inside his 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche.
Detective Chris Picou said the K-9 should get all the credit for the drug bust.
“He did alert to it, and he led us to where it was hidden, which was significant,” he said. “He’s been on the road about four or five weeks and has already got a million dollars’ worth of drugs under his belt.”
Picou said Reyes was going to be part of a larger operation.
“That’s a significant amount for a small group so this is going to be a good-sized group moving that much meth,” he said.
McGairty added that arrests such as these play a vital role in fighting crime because they help connect the dots on major drug networks.

Reyes was booked on possession of marijuana and meth with the intent to distribute. He is being held in the Rankin County jail. Bond has not been set.
It isn’t clear if he has an attorney.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force assisted in the investigation.
