Two face felony charges in Choctaw County

Two Alabama residents have been charged with bringing contraband into the Choctaw County jail, authorities said.
Jonathan McKenzie of Pennington was arrested Wednesday for attempting to bring pills and razor blades into the Choctaw County Jail, Choctaw County Sheriff Scott Lolley said in a press release.

McKenzie, who was charged with promoting prison contraband (first degree) for the razors and
possession of a controlled substance for the pills, remained in custody Friday at the Choctaw County Jail, where his bonds totaled $30,000, Lolley said.
On Thursday, Quoneshia Witherspoon of Butler was arrested for attempting to bring marijuana into the Choctaw County Jail, Lolley said. Witherspoon was charged with promoting prison contraband. She was released on a $7,500 bond.
According to Lolley, promoting prison contraband (first degree) is a Class C felony and can carry a 1- to 10-year-sentence in the state penitentiary. Promoting prison contraband (second degree) is a Class C felony and can carry a 1- to 10-year-sentence in the state penitentiary.
Possession of a controlled substance is a Class C felony and can carry a 1- to 10-year-sentence in the state penitentiary.
“Citizens visiting the Choctaw County Jail should be aware that correctional officers are thoroughly searching for contraband,” Lolley stated in the release. “People attempting to bring contraband inside the jail will get caught, charged, and arrested for this.”
