Gregory Favre to address Southern Miss fall graduates

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Renowned journalist Gregory Favre has been tapped to address the fall graduates at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Favre, a former executive editor of the Sacramento Bee and vice president for McClatchy Newspapers, will give the keynote address at two commencement exercises Friday, Dec. 11, at Reed Green Coliseum in Hattiesburg.

The first ceremony at 10 a.m. is for graduates of the Colleges of Health, Nursing, and Science and Technology. The second at 2:30 p.m. is for graduates of the Colleges of Arts and Letters, Business, and Education and Psychology.

After leaving McClatchy in 2001, Favre became a Distinguished Fellow in Journalism Values at The Poynter Institute. In 2015, he was the founding editor of Sacramento-based CALmatters, a non-profit journalism venture that serves as a watchdog of California government.
