Bond has been denied for a Neshoba County man charged with murder and arson in the recent shooting death of his father.

Neshoba County Sheriff Tommy Waddell said Victor McBeath was charged Monday in the shooting death of his 83-year-old father, Ozie Lee McBeath. Autopsy results showed McBeath died of a single gunshot wound to the back of the head, officials said.

Waddell said officers received a 911 call around 4 a.m. last Wednesday. The caller said a shot had been fired at a home on County Road 101.  When sheriff’s deputies arrived at the residence, they had to enter through the front door, which was locked, Waddell said.

“After gaining entry into the home they found the victim deceased,” Waddell said.

Waddell said before entering the home, deputies noticed it was on fire.

“They returned to their patrol cars and got their fire extinguishers, went back into the home and put out the blaze,” Waddell said. “The fire appeared to have started in the dining room area.”

After searching the perimeter, the deputies found Victor McBeath at the edge of the woods behind the house, according to Waddell.

“He was taken into custody without incident,” Waddell said.

Victor McBeath is being held in the Neshoba County Law Enforcement Center.
