Jasper Purvis Shelton

    Services for Jasper Shelton will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Brothers Michael Yancey Sr., Joey Shelton and Marcus Finch officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Mr. Shelton was employed with Flintkote/Apache/Celotex 38 years. He loved music, especially country and bluegrass, and he could sing and play any instrument well. He was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. He loved his family dearly, but above all he loved the Lord.

    Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mollie Pierce Shelton; children, Kathy (Steve) Rutledge, Jane (Ronnie) Shelton, Nancy Shelton-Neal, Judy (Michael) Yancey and Purvis Wade (Lara) Shelton; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Rhodes and Eula Mae Westbrook Shelton; siblings, Cecil Shelton, Mardell Wood, Doris Robinson, Lois Tims and Ada Stephens.

    Pallbearers will be Chris Rutledge, Wade Shelton, Andy Miles, David Hiatt, Wes Smallwood, Henry Shelton and James Robinson, and honorary pallbearer Drew Yancey.

    Visitation will be today, from 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home.
