Volunteers needed to help place wreaths on veterans’ graves

BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — Volunteers are needed to help place several thousand Christmas wreaths on the graves of veterans.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1SfW0F4 ) the Wreaths for National Cemetery group, which operates under the nonprofit Crusaders for Veterans, will place artificial wreaths on headstones at National Cemetery in Biloxi during a ceremony at 11 a.m. Dec. 5. Volunteers are asked to simply show up at the ceremony.

About 600 people helped last year lay about 4,400 wreaths. The group has been placing wreaths on the first Saturday in December for the past three years. The wreaths stay in the cemetery for a month.

Event organizer Veronica Romano of Riemann Family Funeral Homes says the raise money all year for the project. She says Keesler Air Force Base this year donated more than 1,000 wreaths.
