A program on two Indian schools supported by the Daughters of the American Revolution was presented by Lynn Selman, vice regent of Samuel Dale Chapter, Mississippi State Society DAR, at the chapter’s November meeting.

As Oklahoma’s oldest college of continuing education, Bacone College was began in 1880, and is now located in Muskogee, Selman said. Bacone College is an accredited liberal arts college that includes a nursing school and x-ray technology program. Chemewa is a high school located in Salem, Ore. Chemewa is a 135-year-old boarding school and is fully accredited, she said. Students who attend the school come from as far away as Alaska, Selman said. More than 70 Indian tribes are represented by the 400 students who attend Chemewa.

After the program, members donated money and on a motion by Sarah Walters that was seconded, voted to send the money to Chemewa.

The Nov. 4, 2015, meeting was called to order by Lyll Selman, first vice regent, at 10:16 a.m.
