BLUE SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) — Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi has $100,000 to give away in the form of one-time grants.

“This is a one-time grant opportunity for organizations that may not be applicable for our standard bi-annual grant program,” spokeswoman Emily Holland tells The Northeast Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/1GEJDkV). “Any organization, including individual schools and nonprofit organizations without 501(c)(3) status may receive funding for a program within one of the four focus areas.”

Those focus areas include: reading readiness initiatives, anti-bullying programs, LGBT awareness and poverty awareness.

“These four funding areas were selected because they are currently underserved by Toyota Mississippi’s grant funding opportunities due to lack of requests,” Holland said. “The two pillars of the Toyota Way are respect for people and continuous improvement. Our hope is to improve our communities by reaching organizations and the clients they serve that may feel marginalized.”

A workshop will be hosted Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the plant in Blue Springs to review the guidelines. In addition, this particular grant program is available for nonprofit organizations serving Pontotoc, Union and Lee counties only.

Since 2011, Toyota Mississippi has given nearly $2 million to nonprofit groups across Northeast Mississippi through a quarterly grant program that was revamped for 2015, making it a biannual grant process.

“Grants will be awarded based on need and not subject to our standard guidelines,” she added.

Participants in the workshop are asked to register by Wednesday by calling 662-317-3518.

All grant requests must be submitted by Dec. 1. The application may be found at www.toyotagrants.com/tmmms.
