Thompson said Ruffin is charged with shooting into a dwelling in connection with an incident that took place on the night of Sept. 23 that was a retaliation for a gang shooting that happened earlier in the day between two gangs, the Black Disciples and the Rolling 60s.

Ruffin was previously arrested on two separate violent crimes that involved guns, Thompson said. But due to a bond agreement, he was allowed to post bond putting him back on the streets.

Four other individuals also have been charged in connection to the incident, Thompson said.

Tracy Darby, Ruffin’s mother, has been charged with hindering prosecution. Lederious Chaney, age unavailable, has been charged with shooting into a dwelling and street gang activity, and Wentrell Bell, 18, has been charged with hindering prosecution. Mykel Randle, 20, has been charged with hindering prosecution.

Randle is also charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault pertaining to an incident that took place Aug. 30 in the 5100 block of Fifth Street.
