Douglas “Doug” Bourrage

    Services for the late Mr. Douglas “Doug” Bourrage will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, with Pastor Richard Wesley officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery with Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Bourrage, 61, was born June 3, 1954, and died Thursday Oct. 15, 2015, at The University of Alabama Birmingham. He attended Middleton Attendance Center and Northeast High School. Mr. Bourrage, who started working in his teens, worked hard all of his life and even during the early years of his illness. He owned and operated B&B Logging Company.

    Mr. Bourrage confessed Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board and was active in all facets of the church. Doug loved the Lord, he loved Galilee, and he loved his family. He always went out of his way to help others, even during his own illness.

    He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Mrs. LaVerna Kennedy Bourrage; his devoted son, Mr. Douglas Maurice Bourrage and his wife, Terri; one devoted brother, Mr. Willie D. Bourrage and his wife, Nancy, of Dolton, Ill.., five devoted sisters, Mrs. Patsy Bourrage Wooten of Dolton, Ill.; Mrs. Shirley Bourrage Burton and her husband, Carl; Mrs. Deborah Bourrage Stokes and her husband, Larry; Mrs. Christine Bourrage Naylor and her husband David; and Mrs. Dessie Bourrage Johnson and her husband, the Rev. Winston Johnson; four grandsons: Kendarius, Christine, Douglas and Carlo; a special nephew who was like a son, Mr. Courtney Bourrage; one uncle, Mr. Robert Hodges of Chicago, Ill.; two aunts, Mrs. Ola Bourrage of Meridian and Mrs. Alzater Hodges of Chicago, Ill.; five sisters-in-law: Ms. Carol Kennedy, Ms. Cynthia Kennedy, Mrs. Betty Kennedy, Mrs. Willie Mason and Mrs. Dorothy Ruffin of Seattle, Wash.; one brother-in-law, Mr. Gary Kennedy and his wife, Deborah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    He was proceeded in death by his parents, Mrs. Mattie Hodges Bourrage and Mr. Sammie D. Bourrage.

    Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, from 6-7 p.m. at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home.
