Here’s a look at several area teams competing tonight:

NEWTON COUNTY AT NE LAUDERDALE

Notable: Newton County High School (5-3 overall) is still searching for its first district win. The Cougars are 0-2 in area play.

Head coach Gene Mitchell’s keys to the game:

•Control Northeast’s running game

•Block the Trojans’ second-level defenders

•Win in the kicking game

NCA AT PRENTISS CHRISTIAN

Notable: The winner between Newton County Academy (4-4, 2-0) and Prentiss Christian (8-0, 2-0) will win MAIS District 4-A/AA.

Head coach Robert Roberts’ keys to the game:

•The Generals must use their quickness to their advantage against Prentiss’ size

•Be feisty on offense and try to work outside

•On defense, don’t allow Prentiss to get big momentum early

KEMPER ACADEMY AT CENTRAL ACADEMY

Notable: This will be the second district contest the Rams (8-0, 1-0) have played this season. Running back Hunter Cumberland will sit out due to injury.

Quotable: “We’re bruised up a bit, but if we play our game and do the things we’ve been doing, I think we’ll be fine,” head coach Pete McCleskey said. “We haven’t seen (Central Academy) on film, but we played them in the scrimmage before the season.”

ENTERPRISE AT HEIDELBERG

Notable: Enterprise High School (6-2, 1-1) will face a team in Heidelberg High School (5-3, 0-2) that’s a new addition to its district.

Head coach Kelly Jimmerson’s keys to the game:

•Good attitude

•Good effort

•Good focus

PHILADELPHIA AT CHOCTAW COUNTY

Notable: Philadelphia (5-3, 1-1) has won three of its last four games.

Head coach Teddy Dyess’ keys to the game:

•Win in the kicking game

•Prevent big plays

•Control the ball

GERMANTOWN AT NESHOBA CENTRAL

Notable: Neshoba Central High School (2-6, 1-2) has four remaining games on its district schedule, including tonight’s contest against Germantown High School.

Head coach Brian Ford’s keys to the game:

•Control the line of scrimmage

•Come out on top in the turnover margin

•Play well defensively

NORTHEAST JONES AT QUITMAN

Notable: Quitman High School (1-7, 1-1) got its first win last week, at 14-7 victory versus Newton County.

Head coach Steve Bynum’s keys to the game:

•Play with the same relentless effort as last week

•Limit costly mistakes

•Limit the number of big plays by Northeast Jones quarterback Caleb West

Other area matchup: Newton High School (2-5, 1-1) at Bay Springs High School.

All games kick off at 7 p.m., except for Kemper Academy, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
