Mom held in child’s stabbing could be deported

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — A woman accused of stabbing her 3-year-old son could be deported if she’s convicted of attempted murder.
The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1Qr8LeZ) Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on 26-year-old Nomatter Gava-Hudson, of Biloxi.

A federal document says she is a Zimbabwe native.
Gava-Hudson has been held at the Harrison County jail on a $1 million bond since her arrest Oct. 6. She is accused of stabbing her son three times the night before as her husband screamed for help. A passer-by offered emergency medical aid and called 911.
After her arrest, ICE asked the jail to hold her pending resolution of the criminal charge.
A criminal charge must be resolved before an immigration matter is resolved.
Attempted murder is punishable by 20 years to life in prison.
