Monday morning fire destroys home

    No one was injured in a Lauderdale County home completely destroyed by fire early Monday morning.

    Lauderdale County Fire Coordinator Alan Dover said the fire happened around 3:38 a.m. in the Russell community on Russell Manor Road.

    “There were two elderly people in the home at the time of the fire,” Dover said. “They were able to make it out safely, but their dog perished in the fire.”

    Dover said due to the fire being as far gone as it was, the roof collapsed, complicating matters even further.

    The Lauderdale County fire coordinator said with assistance from personnel from Russell, Toomsuba and Marion fire departments, they were able to bring the fire under control around 11 a.m.
