Newton Theatre Company presents “Shrek: The Musical”

    The Newton Theatre Company has been busy preparing for its upcoming presentation of “Shrek:The Musical,” which opens Oct. 17 at the Roxy Theatre in Newton.

    The show will be presented Oct. 17 and 24 at 7 p.m. and Oct. and 25 at 2 p.m.The musical is based on the 2001 film “Shrek” and the 1990 book with the same name.

     “It’s going to be a great performance,” said Julie Rowzee, the musical’s director. “It’s got a lot of humor in it.”

    Rowzee says the cast features some Newton Theatre Company veterans, as well as many newcomers, especially young children.

    “I always like to try to involve children as much as possible,” Rowzee said. “Because they are the future of the theater.”

    Grace Norman serves as musical director for the production.

    Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for children 12 and younger. Tickets are available at Designz by Nikki, the Newton Chamber of Commerce, Newton County Bank, or at The Roxy Theatre.

    The cast includes Aaron Vega as Shrek; Kevin Chertkow as Donkey; Jessica Price as Fiona; Colt Cleveland as Lord Farquaad; Abby Rich as Ogress Fiona; Morgan Davidson as Teen Fiona; Abby Chertkow as Young Fiona; Nathan Chertkow as Young Shrek; Olivia Vaughn as Dragon; Melinda Rich as Mama Ogre; Greg Boggan as Papa Ogre; Lane Fulton as King Harold; Sarah Wysocki as Queen Lillian; Josh Mitchell as Pinnochio; Emily Nelson, Natalie Nelson and Garrett Nelson as the Three Pigs; Abby Chertkow as Wolf; Christopher Chertkow as Peter Pan; Genesis Divine as Ugly Duckling; Levi Holliman as Papa Bear; Katie Johnson as Mama Bear; Lily Miles as Baby Bear; Savannah Martinez as Humpty Dumpty; Ashlee McCall as White Rabbit; Jaylon Robinson as Mad Hatter; Abby Vega as Gingy; Justus Vega as Elf; Macy Walker as Sugar Plum Fairy; Holliana White as Wicked Witch; Nathan Chertkow as Dwarf; and Cameron Boggan as Bishop/Greeter.
