VIDEO: Man tries to kill spider with lighter, sets gas station on fire

Last week, a spider made headlines for causing a car wreck. This week, it’s a car fire.

Instead of stepping on it, Fox 2 Detroit reports that a man in Center Line, Michigan attempted to set the annoying arachnid on fire. Had the critter not been right by the gas tank he was topping off at the time, maybe the unconventional execution would have gone off without a hitch.

Instead, it went off with a bang.

Video of the recent incident shows the panicked man watch the fire erupt and spread almost instantly from the small inferno by the nozzle to gas pump itself.

Susan Adams, one of the gas station’s employees, quickly switched off the pump before calling the fire department. But there was no need— the unorthodox exterminator had already extinguished the flames with a nearby fire extinguisher.

Authorities are still unsure of the spider’s condition, but the man’s car escaped mostly unscathed—but still in need of gas.

Fox 2 says he returned to fill up the next day.

“He was sorry,” Adams said. “He was sorry, he said he didn’t know. It is just one of those things that happen—stupidity.”
