YORK, Ala. – The wife of a York, Ala. council member fatally shot inside his home on Valentines Day has been charged with murder in his death.
Carolyn Cook, 44, was arrested Thursday around 3:30 p.m. after a Sumter County grand jury indicted her on a charge of murder in the death of her husband, Ecoles Cook Jr.
Carolyn Cook is in custody in the Sumter County Jail. Bond has been set at $50,000, York Police Chief Brian Harris said.
“This arrest wraps up the seven-month long homicide investigation into the death of Mr. Cook,” Harris said.
Police said they were called to the Cook home on the night of Feb. 14 by Carolyn Cook and when they arrived they found Ecoles Cook, who had been shot multiple times. According to a press release issued by the city of York after the shooting, Cook was still alive when officers arrived but died shortly after his arrival at Hill Hospital.
Harris said the York Police Department was assisted in the investigation of the case by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the State Bureau of Investigation, the University of West Alabama Police Department and 17th Circuit District Attorney Greg Griggers.
