Emergency crews had been searching for the body after receiving a call around 6 p.m. Thursday about a man and an 8-year-old girl in distress in the lake.

According to Lauderdale County Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun, when responders arrived on the scene Thursday, the girl had been pulled safely from the water and was wearing a life preserver.

Chiasson was last seen struggling in the water, Calhoun said.

The Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks handled the investigation.
