No jail time for ex-teacher after guilty plea

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) — A former teacher at Cathedral High School in Natchez who pleaded guilty to inappropriate contact with a student has received a suspended jail sentence.
Twenty-eight-year-old Brett Hinson was arrested in June and charged with sexual battery. He pleaded guilty to two lesser charges of touching a child for lustful purposes.

The Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1OGpNoz ) that Hinson was sentenced to 30 years in prison Thursday, but the prison time was suspended.
District Attorney Ronnie Harper said Judge Forrest Johnson ordered that as a condition of his probation Hinson must have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family.
Hinson lives across the Mississippi River from Natchez, in Vidalia, Louisiana. He faces related charges there and awaits a Sept. 16 hearing.
