- Leading the cast of Meridian Little Theatre's upcoming production of "Camelot" are, from left, Enrique Lois Ciabada as Lancelot, Jammie Williams as Guenevere and Brian Smith as Arthur.
The 83rd season of Meridian Little Theatre will open with the classic Broadway hit musical, “Camelot,” which will be presented Oct. 22-27 at the Highway 39 North playhouse.
Written by Alan J. Lerner and Frederick Lowe, the play is based on the King Arthur legend as adapted from the T. H. White’s novel “The Once and Future King.” The original production in 1960 ran on Broadway for 873 performances, winning four Tony Awards. Starring Richard Burton, Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet, the score produced several never to be forgotten songs, such as “The Lusty Month of May,” “Before I Gaze on You Again,” “If Ever I Should Leave You” and “What Do the Simple Folk Do?”
“We have an excellent cast with a mixture of MLT veterans and several new faces,” MLT Director Ronnie Miller said.
“I am extremely happy with the role of King Pellinore will be played by former mayor John Robert Smith, who is one of MLT’s favorite all-time performers. Several other cast members played in the previous production in 2008 and are having great fun doing it again.”
