Kemper County native Randy Galloway is the new deputy director of Stennis Space Center.
Galloway has served in several leadership roles at NASA, including that of chief engineer for International Space Station/Payloads Processing at Kennedy Space Center, according to a NASA press release.
“Randy demonstrates the leadership and managerial skills found in senior level executives to ensure technical excellence and alignment with the agency’s vision,” Stennis Space Center Director Richard Gilbrech said.
In his previous position, Galloway served beginning in 2007 as director of the Engineering and Test Directorate at Stennis where he was responsible for executing the center’s major lines of business in propulsion test management and execution, space technology and applied sciences. He has an extensive background and experience in the propulsion test world, according to the press release.
Galloway graduated from East Mississippi Community College in 1981, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Mississippi State University in 1983. In addition to numerous awards, including the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal in 2001, he received the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal in June 2015. He is married to the former Connie Neal, also a Kemper County native; the couple has a daughter, Cady.
As deputy director of the center, Galloway is responsible, with the center director, for coordinating all of NASA’s rocket propulsion testing capabilities and Stennis’ roles in NASA’s applied science programs, as well as managing Stennis. He succeeds Jerry Cook, who will return to the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.
