My winner’s list of rounds 1-3 are in

I’m not really sure why we use the term “cheat sheet” for the list of players that we think are the best and most draftable, but then again, I didn’t know why they called Fantasy Football “roto” until just a minute ago when I looked that up.

So if you have a good reason why it’s called a “cheat sheet,” then hit me up on Twitter (@Bro_KP), but until then, I am going to call it a winner’s list.

With there being two weeks until Week 1, we need some way to fill this gap, and that is where my winner’s list will come in. Of course I call it that because I think the person that studies/prepares the most and has the best list will be the winner in their league.

A couple of things about my winners list: Firstly, it doesn’t line up exactly with my rankings that have come out over the past few weeks because I have seen some players in preseason action, and some have gotten injured since then. So the list is fluid to an extent.

Secondly, I did not look at a single team’s schedule when making this list. To me, team talent and individual talent are more important. Third, I will almost certainly stick to this list when drafting and won’t be persuaded by an early rush to grab quarterbacks or tight ends, for example.

Fourth, I am basing my rounds on a standard 10-team format and, lastly, my league has not drafted yet, so Dad, Joey and Will, put this article down and get your own winner’s list.

Round 1

1    Adrian Peterson    rb1

2    Jamaal Charles    rb2

3    Eddie Lacy    rb3

4    Leveon Bell    rb4

5    Antonio Brown    wr1

6    Julio Jones    wr2

7    Matt Forte    rb5

8    Demarius Thomas    wr3

9    Dez Bryant    wr4

10    Marshawn Lynch    rb6

Notice that I did stick closely to both my rankings and strategy that have already come out. Elite running backs are difficult to come by, so they go first, and then elite receivers. You might juggle these guys around two or three spots, but I feel relatively good about drafting any of these players at the value listed here. Just remember, Bell is the No. 1 overall talent but will miss the first couple of games this season.

Round 2

11    Odell Beckham Jr.    wr5

12    Calvin Johnson    wr6

13    C. J. Anderson     rb7

14    A. J. Green    wr8

15    Lesean McCoy    rb8

16    Randall Cobb    wr9

17    Justin Forsett    rb9

18    Jeremy Hill    rb10

19    Alshon Jeffery    wr10

20    Demarco Murray    rb11

After the first round, we run into a little more uncertainty. I’ll be honest, depending on where you are drafting and who is left there, I could see you taking a gamble on Aaron Rodgers, Gronk or Andrew Luck — later in the second round. You should probably also bump Cobb up significantly since Nelson is out for the season. I might actually list him just ahead of C. J. Anderson and A.J. Green after I see their third preseason game.

Round 3

21    Aaron Rodgers    QB1

22    Rob Gronkowski    TE1

23    Andrew Luck     QB2

24    Mike Evans    wr11

25    T. Y. Hilton     wr12

26    Brandon Cooks     wr13

27    Frank Gore    rb12

28    Lamar Miller     rb13

29    Deandre Hopkins    wr14

30    Emmanuel Sanders    wr15

The third round is still about availability. Do I honestly think that Lamar Miller is more talented than Russell Wilson or that Gore is going to score more than Drew Brees? Absolutely not, but do I think that having one of the few running backs that should get the lion’s share of carries is important and that I could grab a solid quarterback as late as round eight or nine? Absolutely. Again, you set your list, and you decide on your strategy, but if you ask me, then don’t just look at who you can get, but look at who will be left at each position next time your pick comes around.

Ok, so that is the first three rounds, which should be some of the most important anyway. If you can push your draft back to next weekend then do it, and pick up a paper next Friday and I’ll give you rounds four through six of my winner’s list. They may actually help you more because everyone knows these names, but once you get to the place that you don’t know everyone’s name, that’s where a list really helps. Now go be winners.
