4 new West Nile virus cases confirmed in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi has four new cases of West Nile virus, bringing the total of laboratory-confirmed cases this year to 11.
The state Department of Health says Monday that two of the new cases of the mosquito-borne virus are in Rankin County, one is in Hinds County and one is in Forrest County.

The new cases bring the total this year to three each in Hinds and Rankin counties; two in Forrest County; and one each in Adams, Covington and Simpson counties.
In 2014, Mississippi had 43 cases of the West Nile virus, with seven deaths.
No deaths from the virus have occurred this year.
A Health Department news release says symptoms may include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, rash, muscle weakness or swollen lymph nodes.
