NWS issues excessive heat warning

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — An excessive heat warning remains in effect for southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning was issued Saturday afternoon and is set to expire at 7 p.m. Monday.

Experts say the warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur.

WDSU-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1IXzVZO ) forecasters say high temperatures will be in the mid- and upper 90s across the area. Heat index values are expected to be 112 to 115 degrees Sunday and Monday.

The NWS said relief from the extreme heat is not expected until Tuesday or Wednesday.
