Hundreds gather for funeral of black rebel flag supporter

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Hundreds of people, many waving Confederate battle flags outside, gathered for the funeral of a black rebel flag supporter killed in an accident near Oxford.
Multiple media outlets report that the funeral for 49-year-old Anthony Hervey was held Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Oxford. Hervey was a black man who often dressed in Confederate regalia to support the state flag.

One of Hervey’s friends, H.K. Edgerton, told WTVA-TV (http://bit.ly/1eMX3hw ) he was asked to leave the church because he was holding a Confederate flag.
Hervey died July 19 when the SUV he was driving flipped into a ditch. Passenger Arlene Barnum of Stuart, Oklahoma, survived and told The Associated Press that Hervey lost control of her vehicle after they were chased by a car carrying four or five black men.
