Services for Willie Marie Singleton will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Jamie Baker and Ron Cooper officiating. Interment will follow at Oddfellow Cemetery in Quitman.
Mrs. Singleton, 96, of Meridian, passed into eternity Saturday, July 4, 2015, at Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Grandview Church of Christ in Meridian. In the past, she enjoyed teaching Bible class to children. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking canning and being a hospitable homemaker. As a Christian woman, her children were very blessed, her grandchildren adored her as their loving “Nanny.” Her home was always open to extended family, friends, neighbors and traveling evangelists.
She was born in Possum Trot, Ark. (near Malvern). After high school at Noxubee County Agricultural High School in Mashulaville, she completed Florence Beauty College in Meridian, where she became a cosmetologist. She also worked at Dick Adam’s Drug Store in DeKalb.
She was a 50 year resident of Basic City in Clarke County. Other residences in Mississippi were Marion and Briarwood. She lived at North Pointe Health and Rehabilitation for the last year.
She is survived by her children, William “Bill” Fletcher Singleton Jr., Gloria Sue Young (Jim), Sandy Ray Singleton, and Mona Ruth Alexander (Billy Glen); grandchildren, Natalie Marshall (Steve), Brad Young, Kim Greene (Bill), Gloria Mayatt (Scottie) and Holly Hurst (Gene); great-grandchildren, Trevor and Rhett Marshall, Anna Kathryn Young, J.T. and Jeremy Greene, Payton, Caden and Brody Mayatt, Will Parker and Eli Hurst; sister, Pat Daugherty and sister-in-law Christine Patton and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by William “Bill” Fletcher Singleton Sr., her beloved husband of 67 years; parents, J.J. and Buena Vista Patton, and step-mother, Mabel Patton; brothers, James, Bennis Lee “Bo Bo” and Buel Patton and sisters, Mildred Fleming and Gloria Dee Patton.
Pallbearers will be Scottie Mayatt, Gene Hurst, Bill Greene, Dan Daugherty, Daryl Daugherty, Mose Fleming, Rusty Fleming, Jimmy Rochelle, and honorary pallbearer Brad Young.
Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Doug Phillips and North Pointe Health and Rehabilitation for their care during her illness, especially Nurse Rhonda Wilkinson.
