Five Meridian Community College graduates received scholarships during the commencement ceremony held Friday in the Evangel Temple.

    Three MCC’ers, Kristen Roberts, Kemper Baker and Kenya Hawkins, were tapped as recipients of the H.M. Ivy Scholarship during the college’s spring commencement.

    The scholarship is named after Dr. H. M. Ivy, the founding father of Meridian Community College. Ivy Scholars are selected on the basis of academic excellence, extra-curricular participation, financial need and faculty appraisals.  All three scholars will receive $1,500 for their junior year of study at senior institutions, and provided their academic excellence continues, $1,500 awards for their senior year of study.

    Two other MCC graduates, Jackson Parrish and Wendy Zheng were tapped as Phil Hardin Foundation Scholars. The scholarships come with a $5,000 grant for each to attend the college of their choice. The two were selected on academic excellence, financial need and passion to attain a higher education. This scholarship pays tribute to the former Meridian entrepreneur and his philanthropic endeavors in support of education.

     Also during the ceremony, 39 students were saluted for their inclusion into the Circle of Excellence. The graduates were chosen on the basis of scholarship, leadership, community service and spirit.
