Seven Meridian Community College IBEST-Personal & Professional Development (Work Ethics) students were honored during a recognition and celebration ceremony Tuesday, April 28. The students recently completed the 45-hour course offered through MCC’s Workforce Development Program.
In the class students learn about comprehensive coverage and integration of expected business etiquette, appropriate use of technology, and proper attire required in the business world. The class will aid students to make the connection between self-esteem, personal financial management, and workplace performance.
During the course, students build a complete resume, participate in mock interviews with local human resource professionals, and demonstrate effective communication both verbal and non-verbal. These courses are offered as part of the college’s TAA Gulf IT consortium grant funded through the United States Department of Labor. This grant focuses on the IBEST or Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training teaching model.
Upon successful completion of this program students are given an MCC Workforce Development completion certificate and offered Skills USA Employability nationally recognized certification testing.
“This is a great credential to have. It shows potential employers that these individuals have taken the initiative to learn the basics of proper work etiquette,” Workforce Project Manager Lucy Morgan said. “This course is the first step to improving their employability skills.”
“This has been a great opportunity for the students to share in different professional skills and scenarios. I have watched them build their confidence and self-esteem which they can take into the workplace and future career path,” said Shannon Coleman, instructor.
