EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION: 4-8-15

• Akeva Raimey and Angelia Seals have been selected to receive the Edward T. Lafferty Scholarships at Meridian Community College.
This $2,000 award is funded through the MCC Foundation by Lafferty, aQuitman native and MCC alumnus who established this scholarship to encourage students pursuing a career in the nursing field.

Raimey, an honors graduate of Holly Springs High School, is in the third semester of the Associate Degree Nursing Program at MCC. She is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses and the Mississippi Organization for Associate Degree Nursing.
Raimey plans to continue her education at the University of Memphis. She wants to pursue a career as a family nurse practitioner. After completing her goal, she would like to give back to the community and MCC.
Seals, a 1984 graduate of Mendenhall High School, is in the third semester of the Associate Degree Nursing Program at MCC. She is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses and the Mississippi Organization for Associate Degree Nursing. She was a participant in MCC’s “My College Cares Day,” and works full-time at Pleasant Hill Care Living Center.
Seals plans to continue her education at the University of Southern Mississippi.
• Jarred Scott, Savannah Jackson, Thomas Haney, Brittany Drummond and Krista Everett have been selected to receive the G. V. “Sonny” Montgomery Scholarships at Meridian Community College.
These $1,000 awards are funded through the MCC Foundation by the Board of Trustees of the G. V. “Sonny” Montgomery Foundation. They believe they are “Carrying the Legacy Forward” by continuing Congressman Montgomery’s fervent commitment to education.

Scott is a 2014 high honors graduate of Meridian High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and on the Wildcat Baseball Team. Scott is a member of the 2014-15 MCC Baseball Team. He is in the University Transfer Program at MCC.
Scott plans to continue his education, but is undecided to which university he will attend. His career goal is to become a physical therapist.
Jackson is a 2014 honors graduate of West Lauderdale High School, where she was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, FBLA President and the Knights soccer and tennis team. She is in the University Transfer Program at MCC.
Jackson works part-time at Backyard Burgers. Her goal is to graduate MCC and transfer to the University of Mississippi and enter their Pharmacy Program.
Haney, a 2014 honors graduate of Northeast High School, is in the University Transfer Program at MCC. He is active in his church youth group, assists with their sound board and other events at North Park. Haney plans to transfer to Mississippi State University and major in computer science.
Drummond, a 2013 honors graduate of Northeast High School, is in the University Transfer Program at MCC and a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two year college students, president of MCC’s Gospel Choir and a Dean’s List scholar.
Drummond plans to continue her education at Mississippi State University, majoring in secondary education and teaching English.
Everett is a 2014 honors graduate of West Lauderdale High School, where she was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Knights for Christ and National Honor Society. Everett will start her freshman year in the University Transfer Program at MCC. She is undecided on her educational path.
