JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Mississippi Democratic Party has removed a legislative candidate from the primary ballot because she lives in Nevada.

The Clarion-Ledger reports (http://on.thec-l.com/1xusCQD ) Clara Davis-Dawkins wanted to run against incumbent state Sen. Robert L. Jackson, D-Marks, but failed to provide sufficient evidence that she resides in District 11, according to a report released Monday by the party’s executive committee.

District 11 encompasses Coahoma, Quitman, Tunica and a portion of Tate counties.

Residency challenges to two other candidates – incumbent state Rep. Jim Evans of Jackson and incumbent state Sen. Bill Stone of Holly Springs – were denied.

Party primary elections will be held Aug. 4. The general election is Nov. 3.
