Nelda Dean Scoggin

            NEWTON – Services for Nelda Dean Scoggin will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Newton County Funeral Home, North with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Newton County Memorial Garden in Newton with Dr. Brian Rushing will officiate.

             Mrs. Scoggin, 84, died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at AndersonRegionalMedicalCenter in Meridian. She was born Friday, June 13, 1930 in Louisville. 

             Mrs. Scoggin was a lifelong resident of NewtonCounty. She was a member of NewtonFirstBaptistChurch for many years. She retired as a supervisor from La-Z-Boy South after working there for over 30 years. She enjoyed painting, bird watching, sewing, visiting with friends, talking to others about her grandchildren, and she loved her cat “Sam”. She will be missed by many, especially the residents of Congregate and her family. 

             She is survived by two daughters, Carol Lee and husband Dan, and Donna Scoggin; two sisters, Bertha Miles and Cindy Thrasher; two brothers, CoCo Thrasher and David Thrasher; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

             She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Edward Scoggin; her daughter, Cecilia Scoggin; her parents, and four sisters.
