MOBILE, Ala. — The Meridian Community College Eagles returned to the field Monday afternoon by traveling to southern Alabama to take on Spring Hill College.

The twin bill was originally scheduled to be played at Scaggs Field in Meridian, but due to wet field conditions, the game was moved to Mobile.

The Eagles got back in the win column on Monday by sweeping past (12-1, 2-0) Spring Hill College in impressive fashion. MCC improved to 8-5 overall for the 2015 season after the road doubleheader sweep of Spring Hill College on Monday.

MCC was able to rebound with the sweep of Spring Hill after falling in extra innings to Alabama Southern Community College back on Sunday night in a game that was played at Thomasville High School in western Alabama 9-8.

The Eagles came out swinging the bats in Game 1 by rolling past Spring Hill 12-1. Jaylon Keys and Andrew Crook each had an RBI triple in the victory, while former Clarkdale standout Chance McDonald added a two-run homer. Michael Druhan and Dalton Thomas each had a double apiece, while Trace Hamby added an RBI on a fielder’s choice.

Freshman Josh Rich picked up the pitching win in Game 1 by working two innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while tallying a pair of strikeouts.

MCC completed the sweep of Spring Hill in Game 2, 2-0, behind solid pitching from the entire pitching staff. Former Clarkdale star Jonathan Porter drew his first start of the season on the mound and collected his first win. Porter pitched 2 2/3 innings and finished the game with three strikeouts.

Andrew Crook, Josh Curtis and Goose Yates combined to finish the shutout in relief for the Eagles.

Trace Hamby paced the effort at the plate in Game Two for the Eagles with an RBI single to score Kyle Bayles and Dalton Smith also added an RBI single to score Daniel Hill to account for the scoring in Game 2 for the Eagles.

MCC will return to action on Wednesday with another trip in the state of Alabama as the Eagles will play a visit to Marion Military Institute in Marion, Ala. The doubleheader against Marion Military is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. MCC will then open MACJC play on Saturday by traveling to Ellisville to take on Jones County Junior College in a doubleheader slated for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
