Lauderdale County Homemaker Volunteers have Annual Award Program

The Lauderdale County Homemaker Volunteers Annual Awards Program was held recently at the East Mississippi Electric Power Association (EMEPA) auditorium.
After club president Meredith Donald welcomed members, Robin Doerner presented a devotional reading from Psalm 95, which encourages all people to make a “joyful noise.” Doerner then led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. The Awards Program began after lunch, which was catered by Subway.

MSU Extension Service County Coordinator Patty Swearingen presented the following awards:
• Christmas Ornaments – Virginia White, Elouise Ethridge, Judy Harwell, Robin Doerner and Rae Clark.
• Cultural Arts – Darrel Harwell, woodworking; Caroline Wilson, holiday decorations; Colleen Willis, miscellaneous category; Cathy Clearman, photography; Judy Harwell, recycling; Norma Pace, knitting; Lydia Tingle, crocheting; Rae Clark, ceramics; Virginia White, recycling and tole painting; Elouise Ethridge, photography; and Katherine Daniels, machine sewing, ceramics, and holiday decorations.
• Creative Writing – Earthie Young and Robin Doerner, poetry; Meredith Donald and Sarah Crenshaw, essays; and Earthie Young, short fiction.
Wayne Porter, regional Extension specialist, presented Certificates of Achievement to members for the year’s body of work.
Swearingen named Robin Doerner as having the winning secretary’s book. Obadiah Homemaker Volunteers was named Outstanding Club of the Year. Meredith Donald was named Outstanding Member of the Year.

Swearingen installed the following new officers: Virginia White, president; Robin Doerner, vice president; Judy Harwell, secretary; Lou Limerick, treasurer; and Earthie Young and Elouise Ethridge, photographers.
The meeting was adjourned by Lou Limerick leading members in the Club Collect.
The Feb. 27 meeting will be the annual Fashion Revue.
