Lazy Acres Plantation in Chunky will debut its Lazy Acres in Lights at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, with the light show continuing on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights through Christmas.
“Lazy Acres in Lights will be a unique experience for families in this area and across the state,” owner Michael May said. “Children of all ages will enjoy taking a hayride through Christmas scenes and listening as Santa and Rudolph share the Christmas story.”
The interactive outdoor show will boast a hayride throughout the 120 acre property while guests see and hear the story of Christmas told in various scenes. Costumed characters will be available in the property’s cypress barn for family photos, and guests are encouraged to bring their cameras. “Our animal park and buildings will sparkle with thousands of Christmas lights that will certainly bring joy to your holiday season,” May said.
In the planning stage for more than five years, Lazy Acres in Lights is inspired by several trips to light shows across the country, May said.
“We visited light shows in seven states to prepare for our inaugural season,” May said. “Our family loves going to see Christmas lights and after each light show we visited, we would always leave saying that someday we should do a light show at Lazy Acres. That ‘someday’ has finally arrived.”
Preparing for the light show has been time consuming, May said.
“The first day I went to decorate one of the buildings with lights. I envisioned it taking about an hour, maybe two,” he said. “After the fourth hour and still not finished, I began to wonder if I might have made a huge mistake in starting a light show! However, all of those doubts were erased when, as a family, we flipped the switch on those lights the first night. Beautiful!”
In addition to the show, Lazy Acres Plantation will continue its family favorite Christmas activities, including Santa’s Workshop, a kid-friendly crafting area where guests can decorate ornaments, visit with the elves, and more. The farm will also have Christmas trees and holiday accessories for sale, as well as roasted pecans, apple cider and more seasonal treats for concessions.
“Christmas at Lazy Acres is special. It’s the season on which our farm was founded. It’s wonderful to see so many families return each year to pick their Christmas tree,” May said.
“Entering our 34th season, it’s exciting to hear stories from parents who remember coming to the farm as children and now they are returning with their own children and sometimes grandchildren to keep the tradition alive. We hope you all will join us and make Lazy Acres in Lights a part of your Christmas tradition,” May said.
Lazy Acres in Lights is an ideal holiday attraction for families, churches, youth groups and more, and the property offers discounted admission for groups of 15 or more. Regular admission is $7 while children 2 and under are free of charge. Christmas tree shoppers can visit the farm beginning at 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and Thursdays-Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the light show kicking off each evening at 6 p.m.
