EMCC shuts out MDCC

SCOOBA — East Mississippi Community College closed out the regular season by securing a school-record 21 straight wins in a 65-0 shutout against Mississippi Delta Community College.
It marked the fifth straight shutout for the Lions and the 10th shutout in two seasons. EMCC has now outscored its opponents 269-0 in that five-game shutout streak and 515-38 on the year.
Quarterback Chad Kelly was 24 of 36 in passing with 278 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. Former Meridian High School standout Isaac Johnson led in receiving with eight catches for 85 yards and three touchdowns.
In the first quarter, Kelly hit Camion Patrick on a 31-yard touchdown throw, and on the ensuing Mississippi Delta possession, the Lions were awarded a safety when Mississippi Delta was hit for an illegal forward pass penalty in the end zone.
Johnson then had back-to-back touchdown receptions of 12 and 9 yards, respectively, and the Lions closed out the first quarter on a 10-yard fumble recovery return for a touchdown by Lorenzo Phillips.
In the second quarter, a Drew White 37-yard field goal and touchdown receptions by Johnson for 7 yards and DJ Law for 6 yards put EMCC up 46-0 at the half.
With a running clock in the second half, EMCC’s Preston Baker scored on a rushing touchdown of 5 yards in the third quarter and twice more in the fourth on runs of 3 and 1 yards apiece.
EMCC (9-0) will serve as the No. 1 North seed in the first round of the MACJC playoffs next weekend. It will host either Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College or Jones County Junior College at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.
