- An employee of Vaughan Foods in Moore, Okla. talks with loved ones outside the plant after a man attacked two women, killing one, before being shot by the company's chief operating officer on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014.
MOORE, Okla. — A man who had been trying to convert colleagues to Islam attacked two women at the food company that had just fired him, beheading one and injuring another before being shot by the company’s chief operating officer, police said.
According to Sgt. Jeremy Lewis of the Moore Police Department, Alton Nolen walked into Vaughan Foods Inc. on Thursday afternoon and attacked the two women who were working near the front entrance.
“These women really had nothing to do with that. He was just acting out against them. They are the first people he came in contact with,” Lewis said.
Collen Hufford, 54, has been identified as the first victim of Nolen’s attack. She died at the scene when Nolen cut off her head with a knife.
The second victim, Traci Johnson, 43, was stabbed several times before Nolen was shot by Mark Vaughan, who is the COO at Vaughan Foods and a reserve Oklahoma County Deputy. Nolen also was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Police said the rampage began when Nolen was fired and became angry. He went to the parking lot and drove his car to the front of the business, where he struck another vehicle, and then he entered the front office and attacked Hufford and Johnson.
